E.ON provides strong nuclear energy expertise
Minority shareholder of Fennovoima with its 34 percent share is a nuclear expert E.ON Kärnkraft Finland. It is a part of E.ON, the world’s largest privately owned energy company and the second largest nuclear power company in Europe.
The Finnish founding shareholders of Fennovoima chose E.ON as their partner in the project because the nuclear energy expertise of E.ON is necessary in supplementing and developing Fennovoima’s own expertise throughout the project.
E.ON employs about 80,000 employees in 31 countries. E.ON is the owner or co-owner of 21 nuclear reactors in Europe.
E.ON Kärnkraft Finland AB is a limited liability company, that pays tax on its income to Finland according to the Finnish tax legislation.
Know-how for the entire life cycle of a nuclear power plant
Fennovoima is the only power company in Finland that, through one of its shareholders, already has first-hand experience of the entire life cycle of a nuclear power plant, including decommissioning.
E.ON’s expertise covers all aspects of the life cycle of a nuclear power plant: from uranium and nuclear fuel procurement to nuclear waste management and decommissioning including design and operations.
Safety and reliability are high in the order of importance of Fennovoima, and E.ON’s partnership supports this field as well. E.ON has made considerable investments in the reliability of its nuclear power plants, for instance by replacing and modernizing automation systems in its facilities.
