The Spectator interviews Barbara Judge who has chaired the UK Atomic Energy Authority for the past five years. The paper points out, that France has been wise in the past as it has ensured its energy self-sufficiency with own nuclear power plants. France's 59 nuclear power plants provide today four fifths of French energy. Having own nuclear power plants has also ensured that there has been training so that France has plenty of highly competent nuclear engineers.

Barbara Judge points out that in order to fulfill Britain's energy needs, CO 2 -free nuclear power is needed and it is not possible to cover the need with renewables only.
