E.ON’s new CHP plant opens in Southern Sweden

Energy company E.ON opens a new CHP plant in Malmö, Sweden. The state-of-the-art plant of Öresundsverket is one of the most efficient power plants in Europe with its efficiency of 58 per cent. Both electricity and heat combined the efficiency is as much as 90 per cent.

The technologically advanced 440 MW gas-fired CHP plant produces 3 TWh of electricity for Southern Sweden and 1 TWh of district heat for Malmö, 40 per cent of the heating needs of the city.

The plant replaces coal-fired generation in the energy system in northern Europe and reduces emissions of carbon dioxide by 1 million tons per year. With the €300 million plant E.ON continues to diversify its generation portfolio.

E.ON Nordic is a minority owner of Fennovoima.
