EON demands longer operation time for nuclear power plants according to Rheinische Post. Christoph Dänzer-Venotti of EON says a longer operation time would be a big victory for climate protection. Without nuclear power, it is not possible to reach the climate targets of the Bundesregierung by 2020.
Germany is in an isolated position in Europe as it has ruled out nuclear power. EON hopes that after the elections there will be given a possibility to prolong the operation time of nuclear power plants.
Rheinische Post points out that energy companies suffer from negative image and asks what E.ON is doing in order to make its reputation better. Dänzer-Venotti points out that during 2007-2011 E.ON invests EUR 8 billion in Europe in renewable energy, EON is already world’s seventh biggest wind power producer and is developing CO2-free coal power plants – all this shows that climate protection is of great importance for E.ON.
