Taloussanomat online business publication reports that steel company Outokumpu has joined the wind power park project that is to be established in Tornio. Outokumpu is one the shareholders of Rajakiiri, the company constructing the wind park.
Rajakiiri has decided to construct a 30 megawatt wind power park in the shore by the seaside in Röyttä, Tornio. Outokumpu will get a share of some 20 per cent of the energy produced in the wind park.
Outokumpu Tornio steel factory is one of the biggest electricity consumers in Finland. The company states that it aims at securing its competitiveness and ensure the availability of reasonably priced energy by making energy production investments.
CEO Juha Rantanen says in Taloussanomat, that the share in the wind park project is an important part of Outokumpu’s energy strategy that aims at getting electricity at reasonable and stable price. The company favors energy production that has low emissions. According to Mr Rantanen, the Tornio wind park is a part of Outokumpu’s energy projects based on hydro power and nuclear power.
