Davide Forni

Summer job in Civil Engineering turned permanent

Every year Fennovoima employs several students and those who are just starting their careers. After being a summer trainee, Davide Forni got a permanent position as a Structural Engineer. In this interview, Davide tells about his traineeship experience.

I am… Davide Forni, I’m 26 years old and I come from Italy. I moved to Finland in mid-April, and now I’m living in Helsinki. The transition from Italy to Finland went very smoothly and Fennovoima helped me greatly. My plan is to stay here, since I was offered a possibility to continue as a Structural Engineer with a full-time contract, which I was excited to accept!

My summer in Fennovoima… was a great opportunity to learn new things. I worked as a summer trainee in the Civil Engineering unit, which is part of the Engineering and Design Integrity department. My tasks included e.g., checking norms and standards, implementation, commenting the design documents, and reviewing structural calculations and technical drawings.

The best thing this summer was interacting with Fennovoima’s international staff. My team consists of people from different nationalities: France, Spain, Ukraine, Turkey, Finland, and Italy. I had the privilege to learn about my team members’ backgrounds and the cultures they come from.

In the work community… I feel that I am appreciated and encouraged by my colleagues and that I’m doing meaningful work. In Fennovoima, opinions are equally considered regardless of your title and everyone is always eager to help. Also, the fact that I was offered a permanent employment shows that me and my work input are appreciated in the workplace.

My traineeship in Fennovoima… offered me a broad view of the nuclear field since I hadn’t worked in the field before. I deepened my knowledge on civil engineering, as well as got familiar with the different Finnish laws and guidelines for nuclear industry. Moreover, I was impressed by the high efficiency of the daily work schedule and how easy it was to get help from my colleagues.

Would you like to work at Fennovoima? We have many interesting job openings. Check out the open positions and submit your application by Monday 18 October!
