Infrastructure as well as auxiliary buildings and supporting buildings valued at EUR 400–500 million will be built at the Hanhikivi 1 construction site. See the video and photo gallery below to take a quick look at what is going on at the construction site.
At the moment, approximately 200 people are working at the construction site on any given day. The Sitemanager system includes 579 companies, of which 535 are Finnish. Over 2,700 people have passed the site access training.
Construction of the nuclear power plant will start once Fennovoima has been granted a construction license for the plant. The nuclear power plant consists of a reactor building, a turbine building, a control room building, and fuel buildings, among others. The highest number of people involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant at a time will be around 4,000.

Crushing operations at the construction site, environmental permit decision (November 27, 2017)
Stone excavated from the Hanhikivi peninsula will be crushed at the Hanhikivi 1 construction site. The contractor is Tallqvist Infra Oy, a subcontractor of Titan-2. Residents of the area were informed of the starting of the work by letter in August.
The work at the crushing station is part of the excavation of rock material, and the work is subject to an environmental permit that was granted for the crushing of rock (January 15, 2016/PY-YL1/2016). A notification of temporary operations that will cause noise and vibration has been filed with the environmental protection authority of the municipality of Pyhäjoki. The notification covers all working hours not covered by the environmental permit. One crushing period pursuant to the noise notification was completed between August 23 and November 17, 2017. The start of the crushing period was announced by letter and on this website.
On November 27, 2017, RAOS Project Oy applied for and was granted an amendment of the environmental permit regarding the crushing times. According to the amended permit, crushing operations can be performed at any time of day. Crushing will be performed during daylight hours whenever this is possible, however.
Dust, noise, and vibration caused by the rock crushing will be monitored in accordance with a monitoring plan approved by the authorities. To limit the environmental impact, embankments made from crushed stone have been built around the crushing device. They will prevent noise in the sea area and the closest residential areas. The crushing operations do not involve any blasting. The plant supplier, RAOS Project, is in charge of continuous monitoring and the comparison of limit values. The measuring points farthest away from the crushing area are in the immediate vicinity of the closest residential areas.
The crushed stone will be used to build roads and raise the land on the Hanhikivi peninsula, for example. No crushed stone will be removed from the construction site area and the operations will not increase the traffic volume on Hanhikiventie road.

RAOS Project Oy has filed a notification with the environmental protection authority of the municipality of Pyhäjoki. It covers crushing work not included in the working hours covered by the environmental permit. According to the notification, crushing operations can be performed on weekdays (Mon to Fri) between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. The working hours are from the night between Monday and Tuesday to the night between Thursday and Friday. Night-time crushing will not be performed on weekends.
Night-time crushing will be performed seasonally as necessary.
Residents of the area have been informed of the crushing operations by letter. A notification about any night-time crushing to be performed by virtue of the noise notification will be published one week in advance on this website. There is a movement restriction imposed by the Ministry of the Interior for the construction site on the Hanhikivi peninsula. The restricted area covers the land areas owned by Fennovoima and the water area limited by the construction site.
The restriction has been imposed in order to secure the operations and the property at the construction site, as well as to protect the people working there. Anybody violating the restriction can be ordered to pay a fine.
Aviation prohibition at the Hanhikivi peninsula
Aviation at the Hanhikivi peninsula construction site has been prohibited by a Government Decree. The aviation prohibition area covers the fenced-in construction site area on the Hanhikivi peninsula and the surrounding land and water areas in the immediate vicinity of the construction site. Aviation is only allowed if it is connected to the maintenance of the future Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant or specifically connected to its operation.
