Hanhikivi 1 site had an accident-free year

In 2017, there were no occupational accidents on the Hanhikivi 1 site leading to absences.

Fennovoima’s Occupational Safety Manager Olli-Pekka Pirilä says this zero result comes from safety culture thinking and good practices.

“Everybody needs to understand the importance of occupational safety and follow responsible practices. Each one of us is required to intervene, if other employees are working in a manner, which sets occupational health and safety at risk."

Employees and visitors arriving at the Hanhikivi 1 site can see how well occupational safety has been achieved on a display situated by the site access control gate. The display shows the number of occupational accidents during the previous year, current period without occupational accidents, record period without occupational accidents and the total number of working hours since the beginning of the project.

The display helps to remind everyone arriving at the site of the importance of occupational safety and to encourage all to work safely.

Pirilä has set a clear goal for the numbers on the display.

“We want to prevent all occupational accidents on the Hanhikivi 1 site. The goal is tough, but anyone can work a day without accidents. When there are several of these days in a row, we can achieve accident-free months and years.”

More information about occupational health and safety is available in Fennovoima's Corporate Responsibility Report.
