Fennovoima’s local support took a giant leap in Pyhäjoki and surrounding municipalities

The local support for Fennovoima’s nuclear power plant project took a giant leap, compared to a year ago. According to Norstat Finland, 75 percent of Pyhäjoki residents support the Hanhikivi 1 project. That is 7,6 percent more, compared to the survey conducted in December 2016.

The support for the project also became stronger in the surrounding municipalities: 71,9 percent of the residents in Pyhäjoki, Kalajoki, Merijärvi, Oulainen and Raahe combined were in favour of the project. The support has risen with as much as 9,9 percent compared to one year ago.

According to Regional Communications Manager Heli Haikola, the surging support is a clear signal that the impact of the Hanhikivi 1 -project steadily becomes more visible.

“Local companies have been strongly involved in the project and the entire area has become livelier," Haikola states.

Norstat’s phone survey contacted 850 randomly selected people in December 2017: 400 in Pyhäjoki and 450 in the nearby areas. The margin of error is ±3.3 percent. Fennovoima has commissioned surveys from Norstat Finland since 2008. Please see the results of the survey at the end of the page.
